Erdal Arikan is a  professor in Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department at Bilkent University.

In 2016, he was accepted as the scientist who laid the foundation of 5G Standards in the World with the Polar Codes theory in the field of Information Theory.

He was honored with many international prestigious awards for his work.

In 1981, Arikan received his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the Caltech. He finished his M.S. and Ph.D. studies in Electrical Engineering at the MIT in 1982 and 1985 respectively.
